MS. FIDES CUYUGAN ASENSIO, as Spy

MS. FIDES S. CUYUGAN-ASENSIO is an operatic soprano, actress par excellence, and librettist. She wrote: "Spoliarium," an opera with music by Ryan Cayabyab, "Larawan ng Kababaihan: Maskara at Mukha" with music by Dr. Lucrecia Kasilag, "La Loba Negra" music by Francisco Feliciano, and "Mayo- Bisperas ng Liwanag," an opera written for the Philippine Centennial with music by Rey T. Paguio.

MS. FIDES' career in classical opera spans more than half a century in various roles as singer, stage diector, librettist/lyricist, host and singer in long-running television shows, producer and mentor -- all to critical acclaim. She sang the major role of the ill-fated Dona Juliana in Spoliarium.

MS. FIDES is an alumna of the Philippine Women's University and the Curtis Institute of Music, Pennsylvania, and is currently Professor Emeritus at UP. She is also the Artistic Director of the Opera Guild Foundation of the Philippines and President/Artistic Director of the Music Theater Foundation of the Philippines.

JEANNELLE BIHAG, as Woman

JEANNELLE BIHAG-ROLDAN

Jeannelle is a voice coach, singer and stage actress. She sang solo parts in Ryan Cayabyab's MISA in Spain and in Vaughn Williams' SERENADE TO MUSIC in Scotland with the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she was soprano soloist in Georges Bizet's TE DEUM held at the CCP with the Manila Symphony Orchestra.

She is remembered as the Princess with the Golden Voice in Malaysia when she toured with the ROYAL LONDON CIRCUS "FUSION", a musical circus production by Paul L.B. Lee. She also represented the Philippines as a featured artist at THE TAIWAN INETERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR in Taiwan. As a recording artist, she interpreted the part of MARIA in the religious album HABILIN: ANG PITONG HULING WIKA NI HESUS by Bet. E. Montecillo.

As a stage actress, she played the lead roles as follows: as MAIEA in the fantasy opera WHY FLOWERS BLOOM IN MAY by National Artist Lucresia Kasilag and Fides Cuyugan-Asensio, as VICTORIA LACTAW in HIBIK AT HIMAGSIK NINA VICTORIA LACTAW by National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera, as CHAYONG in BAYAN, ISANG PAA NA LAMANG by National Artist Lucio San Pedro.

Jeannelle has also worked as a voice workshop instructor and voice coach at the ABS-CBN Center for Communication Arts, Inc., The Meridian International Learning Experience and GMA 7's Starstruck Kids.

Theme: a spy wants to enter heaven but gets rejected by St. Peter. He asks for reconsideration and argues his way to God saying he was just following orders for all the misdeeds he did on earth.

The current way to conscientize people is through the pulpit, or through the mass rallies. However a change is occurring, and that is the use of the dramatic stage to express people’s sentiments is coming.

We are moving away from traditional forms and going to this artform that is more exciting and creative.

This is a new idea – to bring more creative expression inside restaurants and bars. Or probably a way of increasing the number of bars that offer such. We are now reaching out to people through places that they frequent to unwind, relax, and be entertained.

I am supposed to be God. Does anyone of you here, dispute that? I come with the best of thoughts for the goodness of humanity. But how come, so many people cannot enter heaven? There are so many souls here who want to have their cases reconsidered. Peter and I have already consigned them to hell or to limbo. But they persist in my hearing their cases again for rejudging.

Peter, who are these people wanting to enter heaven? I thought you’ve screened them already? Why should I still see them? This is too much of a bother.

PETER
My God, they want their cases to be reconsidered.

GOD:
I have told you already. I don’t like going through the same cases twice.

PETER:
Well, they said God is all merciful. He is not going to be bureaucratic. He’ll reconsider our cases.

GOD:
Oh, I won’t argue with that. That’s what they were taught below. So tell me, who’s the first case?

PETER:
My God, this is a soldier, a spy, an undercover SPY.

GOD:
What shall i do with this one?

PETER:
He made life hellish for the subjects assigned to his unit. He said he deserves heaven because he did not do them intentionally.

GOD:
Ok, send him in.

SPY:
My God, forgive me for I have sinned. But it was my superior who ordered me to do those things.

GOD:
And whom did you harass?

SUMMARY OF PLOT

God and St. Peter are checking who can enter heaven. Some of those that have been rejected are seeking reconsideration of their cases and one of them is a spy. He thinks that he deserves heaven. He rationalizes that he was only under orders when he harassed people. Will he be able to enter heaven? Do you think he should be allowed to be there?
